This provides an opportunity to thank God for the gift of a child and to pray for the new baby. We encourage all parents to have this Thanksgiving Service early after the birth of their child, irrespective whether they go on to have a baptism later. It is always good to give thanks and pray for God’s blessing.
Following the Service of Thanksgiving we have the Baptismal Service, a sign of God’s grace through Christ and identifying with God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Candidates for baptism may be infants, children or adults. The service varies accordingly.
Infant Baptism acts on the assumption that the parents seek to follow Christ and puts a series of searching questions about our relationship to Jesus Christ. We offer some short preparation sessions to help parents prepare themselves for the promises they are making.
Thanksgivings and Baptisms normally take place during our Sunday morning all age service at St Philip’s Church on Mill Road at 10.30am, enabling the congregation to welcome and pray for them.
We encourage those not baptised or confirmed to consider this. It is a wonderful occasion when mature people express their faith in Christ in public – possibly through full immersion or sprinkling and the laying on of hands for the Holy Spirit in Confirmation.
We would love to talk these things over with you. Please contact us through the Church Office or the Vicarage and we can arrange a suitable time to meet.
